Not so „hiddenkitchen“

Hello again everyone. Like we mentioned in our last blogpost, we decided to go a healthier route for this weeks food date. On Saturday we went to the Hiddenkitchen at the „Park“ location. Hiddenkitchen is specialises in natural food and the use of the best and freshest ingredients.

Location

Hiddenkitchen has two locations in Vienna. The „City“ location which is in the 1. district and the „Park“ location where we went to. It is located on Invalidenstraße 19, very close to Landstraße. Please note that the two branches have quite different opening times.

Drinks

As we went on a Saturday they „only“ had a brunch menu.

For drinks we had Hot chocolate and a Herbal tea with lemongrass.

On the menu the Hot chocolate was advertised as made with 60% belgian chocolate. I (A.) can´t really attest to that but it was pretty good. It was not as sweet as a lot of hot chocolates are but it would have been really nice if it had tasted a little more of the belgian chocolate.

I (S.) initially wanted the Ginger-Lemon Yasmin tea which was out of stock and was recommended a herbal tea instead which included Lemongrass, as I was looking for a citrus tea. Unfortunately the tea was quite far from refreshing. The herbal tea contained a type of berries that increasingly tasted like sweetener when steeping the tea. So I really didn’t enjoy the tea, it was far to sweet for my personal taste.

Main

For the main dishes we decided to order the combo wich consisted of a plate of 2 kinds of salad from the counter and either a Sweetpotato-Frittata or Quiche or an Oven-Omelette. We both had different kinds of salad and Oven-Omelettes.

I (S.) had an Oven-Omlette with spinach and tomatoes, and some root salad and lamb’s lettuce as a side. The root salad contained a mix of carrots and turnips, as well as walnuts. The oven Omelette was quite the surprise as we expected an actual Omelette, but since it was baked and served in a baking dish it felt more like a quiche. But it was still a nice brunch dish. There weren’t any special spices in it so there is not much to say about it. I (S.) really was not keen on the root salad as the taste of its dressing didn’t agree with my taste buds.

I (A.) hat the Oven-Omlette with Chorizo, Mozarella and Estragon. As a side I (A.) had lamb´s lettuce and a sort of potato salad. The Omlette was ok but really under-seasoned for my taste and sadly the salad was not that good. The potato salad consisted of cold whole potatos with some kind of soft cheese and yet again it tasted a little boring.

Dessert

For dessert we decided to go somewhere else because nothing on the menu really spoke to us. To be precise we went to Josephs Bakery. We’ve been there several times and it was always a nice experience. Much reccomended for Dessert or sweet snacks. Maybe we’ll do a review at some point.
